Why it mattered

Every hour of construction inside an operating hospital is taken from patient care. The work has to take as little as possible, give it back exactly when agreed and treat infection control as a hard rule, never a footnote.

The challenge

The chilled water plant serving a hospital’s surgical tower was past the end of its life, and two of its four chillers were already unreliable. Every operating room, sterile core and recovery bay depended on it.

Swapping chillers, cooling towers and pumps meant moving through several temporary configurations, each of which narrowed the margin that kept the surgical environment in tolerance.

How we kept it on course

Our approach, phase by phase.

The same disciplined sequence we bring to every engagement, shaped around what this project needed most.

PHASE 01PHASE 02PHASE 03PHASE 04
PHASE 01Capture the clinical constraints

Theatre calendars, infection-control risk classes, utility dependencies and clinical approvals written into the schedule as fixed logic.

PHASE 02Plan each shutdown to the hour

Every outage and room turnover sequenced in detail and walked through with facilities and clinical leads beforehand.

PHASE 03Publish a plain look-ahead

A rolling two-week view issued to clinicians in everyday language, so no department was caught off guard.

PHASE 04Return each space on time

Commissioning, air balancing, testing and terminal cleaning sequenced so each area went back into service on the agreed day.

What changed

The difference we made

Measured the only way that matters: did the project land where we said it would.

Result 01Conditions held throughout

Temperature and humidity in the ORs stayed within tolerance through every switchover.

Result 02Scripted cutovers

Each switchover ran from a minute-by-minute script, walked through in advance with facilities and perioperative leadership.

Result 03Redundancy restored

The tower now runs with N+1 cooling, where before it ran on luck.
